Family Camping Vacations
Ever wanted to go somewhere before? Probably. Every looked at hotel prices, gasped, and decided not to go on the trip after all? Probably. Decent accommodation prices are hard to come by these days. Many times hotels will not let you have more than four or five people in one room; this is fine if you have less than two kids, but if you have more, it can become quite infuriating. What is this cheap method of housing you ask? Actually, it’s camping. This may sound a bit weird at first, and you might not want to go camping. Sounds like too much of a pain, right? Actually it isn’t as bad as it first might seem. Too much extra stuff to carry around? The only big thing you’re going to need is a tent and a sleeping bag for each person; all easily packed into the back of an SUV or minivan.
The best place to camp, if there is one nearby where you plan on going, is a state park. These are generally around 20 dollars a night; amazingly cheap compared to a hotel room. Privately owned campgrounds are slightly more; generally more like 40 to 50 dollars.
You will, of course, need a tent for your family. Make sure to keep a few essential things in mind when looking for one. Make sure it will withstand the type of weather you plan on camping in, and make sure there’s enough room for everyone you’re bringing (usually when the manufacturer says it fits a certain amount of people you want to get one with one above the number of people you plan on bringing). You probably don’t want something that’s too complicated to set up either.
Campgrounds can also offer down-time activities. Most will have some sort of recreational pastimes available, whether that be hiking, swimming, or canoeing. This can be great if you want to take a break from whatever you are doing, or relax for an afternoon.
